The Canadian Mental Health Association invites everyone to attend a free evening forum focusing on Mental Health in Alberta on Tuesday, May 9th in Red Deer Alberta.
Why this is important to all Albertans?
In the spring of 2016 the Government of Alberta released “Valuing Mental Health”, the findings and recommendations of the Mental Health Review Panel. The report identified 32 recommendations to improve mental health outcomes in our province.
We are pleased bring together the original members of the Mental Health Review panel to learn from their engagement with thousands of Albertans on the topics of Mental Illness, Mental Health and Addiction. Each panelist brings their own experience and passion for mental health to the conversation.
Time will be given to hear from the panelists followed by questions and answers from the audience.
Panelists
Dr. David Swann – MLA Calgary Mountain View. Dr. Swann was appointed by Premier Notley to co-chair the Mental Health Review Committee that produced the Valuing Mental Health report, which was accepted by the Government of Alberta. During his tenure in public life, Dr. Swann has served as leader of Her Majesty’s Official Opposition, leader of the Alberta Liberal Party and sat on numerous legislative committees.
Heather Sweet – MLA Edmonton Manning. MLA Sweet was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta on May 5, 2015. On March 9, 2016, she was elected as the Deputy Chair of Committees. Additionally, MLA Sweet is the Government Caucus Chair and a member of the Ministerial Panel on Child Intervention.
Tyler White – CEO of Siksika Health Services, affiliated with Treaty 7 Management Corporation. Mr. White helped inform the Valuing Mental Health committee about addiction and mental health issues and opportunities for First Nations, Metis and Aboriginal people and communities, and assisted in developing recommendations that impact these communities.
